Menlo Mavericks

2008 Mavericks Handbook

The Menlo Mavericks program is for ages 8 to 16 years. For ages 5 to 8, please check out the Mavericks Junior Team. At a minimum, each participant should be able to complete one length of the pool unassisted. The program has three main objectives:

  1. Develop and foster a desire for life-long aquatic involvement.
  2. Refine swim skills in all four strokes including turns, dives, and relays.
  3. Instill the desire to improve ability through work, experience, and technique.

Evaluations:
A 10-minute evaluation is required for all new swimmers wishing to register for Mavericks. The evalutions will be held Monday through Thrusday starting at 6:30pm.  Please check in for your evalution ten minutes prior to the evalution with the coach.  This quick evaluation is necessary to assign a child
to the correct team where he or she will make the most progress and be challenged appropriately.

The evaluation takes place in the water with our experienced coaching staff who has the child perform a series of skills. We create a low pressure environment and look at the skills the child has naturally. We assign a team based on three factors; age, swimming ability, and responsiveness to feedback. An evaluation is necessary before team registration.

Prerequisites:
Mavericks:Ability to swim 500 yards, of any combination of Freestyle, Backstroke,
Breastroke and Butterfly.

Coaching Recommendations:
Coaches recommend attendance of at least two days per week.

Due to our commitment to quality coaching and service and to prevent workout overcrowding we now request our swimmers commit to a certain day(s) of the week that they plan on attending.

Registration Policy:

1.  Every swimmer in a session must be registered BEFORE they take part in any coached workout.

2.  There is a 2 WEEK TRIAL PERIOD from the date of registration, where fees are 100% refundable.

3.  Late entries into any session will have their fees pro-rated to the week they start.  There is no pro-ration for kids leaving
the session early or taking weeks off during the session.
