Menlo Swim and Sport periodically offers a week-long Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard certification courses.
To become certified to guard or teach swimming, you must complete approximately 30 hours of training and pass practical and written exams. To enroll, you must be 15 1/2 years old or older and possess a valid photo ID.
The prerequisites include being able to swim 500 yards without stopping, demonstrating crawlstroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Complete a surface dive to 7'-10', retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards and exit the pool with the brick.
Upon a successful completion of class, Lifeguard Certificates are valid for three years and include CPR for the Professional Rescuer (valid for one year) and First Aid (valid for three years).
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class
Menlo Swim & Sport is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Class that will include:
- Lifeguard Training
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid
