Our Non Summer Season hours start on September 29 and go through May 1, 2009.

Monday – Thursday 6am - 8pm
Friday 6am – 7pm
Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm

Open Swimming:
Monday - Thursday Noon – 4pm
Friday Noon – 7pm
Saturday 1pm - 4pm
Sunday 10am - 4pm

Baby Pool
After five months of constant and high usage, the baby pool will take a rest until the weather warms up again in May of 2009. Thanks to the thousands who use the pool for a safe summer season.

Water Polo
The Menlo Mavens water polo team will be hosting an open scrimmage on Friday, October 17 and Friday, November 14, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:00pm. The scrimmage is open to adult men and women of all abilities. Each participant will need a USA Water Polo membership in order to play in the open scrimmages. If you go to the USA Water Polo website www.usawaterpolo.org, you can sign up for a three month membership, please bring proof of registration to the scrimmage. Alternately, you can sign on for a free one-week trial membership on the pool deck with the coach the night of the event. The drop-in fee is $5.00 which is to be paid to the coach.

The Menlo Mavens are proud to announce their first annual water polo tournament to be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008. The tournament will be held from 7:00am – 5 pm; during the tournament the lap swimming lanes in the Performance Pool will be closed. Menlo Swim and Sport management have decided to have lap swimming after normal business hours from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. >more

Aqua Fit
Come be a part of the rapidly growing water aerobics class here at Burgess Pool. The class is inclusive; we welcome adults of all ages and abilities. We have class Monday through Friday from 8 am – 9 am and Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 pm – 7 pm. You will get a great cardio workout that is low impact and the chance to meet a lot of new friends. >more

Mavericks
The Menlo Mavericks have been invited to be a part of the local "Candy League". This league is comprised of local youth swimmers and teams that compete in a fun low key atmosphere during the fall.

Come out and support your Menlo Mavericks at two swim-meets in October. The first swim-meet will be held at Burgess Pool on Friday, October 10, 2008. The meet will start at 5 pm.

The second meet will be the Candy Meet Pentathlon at Riconada Pool in Palo Alto on Saturday, November 1, 2008 starting at 12 noon.

Every swimmer receives a piece of candy for finishing an event which motivates the kids to participate and do their best. >more

Swim School Winter Session
For the sixth season in a row Menlo Swim School has exceeded enrollment expectations. "Nearly 80% of the summer students stayed involved in the swim school this fall session. It is very exciting to see the kids progress over the weeks and months. Some have moved up three levels!" said Shanni Hendler, Head of Menlo Swim School. The school will be offering a winter session 2 for 1 promotion. If you sign up for one lesson Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 noon, you will receive a second morning lesson during the week for free. Contact Shanni for further details.

The winter session will start on November 3 and will go through January 24, 2009.

Menlo Swim and Sport offers swimming lessons year round. Menlo Swim School provides professional, goal-oriented swim lessons for all ages and levels, developing life-long competency and a life-long love of swimming. You can register for Group, Semi-Private and Private swimming lessons during the fall and winter session. Registration is on-line. Homemade Holiday Pumpkin Bread
Here is a quick and easy recipe for that holiday treat that is healthy, hearty and is sure to be a hit with family and friends:

3 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2/3 cup water
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground allspice
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup vegetable oil

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 7 x 3 inch loaf pans.
Mix oil, sugar, and eggs together in a large bowl.
Mix in pumpkin puree and water.
Stir together flour, soda, baking powder, salt, and spices.
Add to the pumpkin mixture, and mix until just combined.
Stir in nuts and raisins.
Divide batter into prepared pans.
Bake for 1 hour. Cool on wire racks.
The recipe makes about 24 bars.

Mark Your Calendar
These special events will lead to a few pool closures and some altered schedules. We are striving to offer a full schedule of lap swimming in spite of some special programming.

Lap Swimming will be available from 6 am – 5 pm on Friday, October 10, 2008 due to the Mavericks swim meet. There will be no Lap Swimming from 5 pm – 7 pm.

Lap Swimming on Sunday, October 12 due to the water polo tournament will be from 4-6pm in the Instuctional Pool and 5pm-6pm in the Performance Pool. There will be a portion of lap swimming in the instructional pool from 10am - 4pm and full lap swimming in the Instructional Pool from 4pm - 6pm. In the Performace Pool lap swimming will only be from 5-6pm.

Menlo Swim School will be closed on Monday, October 13 and Friday, October 31 in observance of Columbus Day and Halloween. There will be no swimming lessons or Mavericks practice on either holiday. There will be Lap Swimming, Open Swimming and Aqua Fit.

MENLO MASTERS

Menlo Masters will kick of the 13th year of the Killer Quad. The Killer Quad is a team promotion that consists of big swims coinciding with the holidays of Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. The corresponding swims are One hour, 50 x 100 yards (3 miles), 75 x 100 yards (4.5miles) and then ultimately 100 x 100 yards (6 miles).

TRIATHLON

In September sixteen members of the Team Sheeper triathlon team competed in the 24 Hours of Triathlon in Denver, Colorado. The triathletes took on an amazing challenge to continually complete a 1/4 mile swim, 11 mile bike loop and a 2.5 mile run loop for 24 continuous hours. There were five athletes who completed the solo division with many awards while the others chose the relay team division. >more
