Swim Pro at Menlo
Menlo Swim and Sport is proud to announce the hiring of Susie Mogensen as our Swim Professional. We are fortunate to have Susie join our team with her coaching talent and passion for swimming and people. She is a fantastic addition to our growing aquatic community.
Swimming is a sport of finesse. Whether you are training for competition or just lap swimming, efficiency is the key to stroke refinement and increased speed. Working one-on-one with the SwimPro will enable you to have a clear assessment of your skills and will provide you with a framework for improvement. The SwimPro will meet with you to discuss your goals and objectives, observe your performance in the pool, and provide you with direct feedback as well as tips and techniques for continued improvement.
Whether you are a lap swimmer seeking to improve your efficiency in the water, a competitive swimmer wanting to refine stroke techniques or perfect starts and turns or just a swimming enthusiast who would like to better understand the mechanics and hydrodynamics of the sport, a session or series of sessions with the SwimPro would be beneficial for you.
Susie is available to work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with limited hours.
Check out our website for information on Susie and to register for a one on one session with our SwimPro. >more

Homemade Granola Recipe
Here is a healthy and fun summer snack to take to pool to replenish your energy after a vigorous swimming workout or to pack in the little ones back to school lunch.
2 cups rolled oats (not instant)
1 cup peanuts or toasted almonds
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup toasted sunflower seeds
1/2 cup coconut
1/4 cup toasted wheat germ
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried fruit (dried apricots, cranberries and dried apples are all delicious choices)
1/4 cup cooking oil (not olive)
1/2 cup honey
Mix the oat, nuts and grains in a large bowl.
Measure oil into the measuring cup and swirl it around before pouring into bowl.
Then measure out the honey in the same, unwashed cup. The oil will help the honey exit the cup.
Toss everything together until evenly coated and then pour out into a baking pan. I use a large roasting pan, as it keeps everything contained. A cookie sheet with a lip also works, but you have to stir it slightly more carefully if you use that.
Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes, turning it with a spatula every ten minutes or so. You want everything to be an even golden brown.
When it is finished cooking, returned the baked granola to the mixing bowl, add the raisins and fruit and stir to combine. Stir gently several times as it cooks, so that it doesn't clump together too much.
Enjoy!
