Air Dome Update

The Instructional Pool at Burgess Park is now enclosed by an Air Dome. After two years of hard work and final inspections by the San Mateo Health Department, the City of Menlo Park Fire Protection District and the City of Menlo Park Building Department, Menlo Swim and Sport passed our last inspection on Friday, January 9, 2009. We re-opened the Instructional Pool to the public on Saturday, January 10, 2009 for Open Swimming.

Background

The Air Dome is simply a fabric material that encloses the pool and is supported by air pressure that is forced in to keep the dome shape intact. A wire cable is attached the bottom of the dome. The wire is then attached to eye bolts that are anchored into the pool deck.

We plan on having the Air Dome over the pool for twenty weeks a year during the coldest, wettest weather, coinciding with our Winter and Spring 1 sessions.

The Air Dome will conserve energy which in turn helps our environment. The Air Dome will also offer protection from the cold winter weather for the children who attend swimming lessons and Open Swimming and for the senior community who swim laps and do water aerobics.

We would like to thank you for your support, encouragement and patience while the Instructional Pool was closed over the Christmas and New Year holidays. We hope you enjoy the Air Dome as much as we do!

Menlo Mavericks

The Spring 1 Session will start on January 26 and go through April 3, 2009.

We are happy to now introduce the improved Mavericks program!

Mavericks Level I program will provide a comfortable and supportive transition from Swim School into the Mavericks program. The Mavericks Level I program will be limited to twelve swimmers for each day, practice will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 - 5:00pm. Coach Audrey Ryder will employ her patient and nurturing characteristics to open the world of swimming to these budding aquatic individuals. The program will be kept small to offer a high level of coach to swimmer feedback and interaction in a low stress and comfortable environment.

Mavericks Level II (formerly Junior Mavericks) will be held Monday through Thursday from 5:00 to 5:45pm. Coach Nancy Lewis is primed to shape and mold the Mavericks Level II participants into confident and competent swimmers.

Mavericks Level III (formerly Mavericks) will be held Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Coach Allen Varner is anxious to continue the fine tuning of swimming fundamentals. >more
