Air Dome

The Instructional Pool will be closed on Saturday, April 11 starting at 1pm and will re-open on Monday, April 13 for regular programming starting at 6am. During this time, Open Swimming will be available in a section of the Performance Pool.

The Air Dome helped conserve energy which in turned helped our environment. The Air Dome offered protection from the cold winter weather for the children who attended swimming lessons and Open Swimming and for the senior community who swam laps and did water aerobics.

The Air Dome was a huge success. We hope that you were one of the many who benefited and enjoyed having the dome up. We would like to thank the community for their support, encouragement and usage in our Air Dome endeavor.

In the future we plan on having the Air Dome over the Instructional Pool for twenty weeks a year during the coldest, wettest weather, coinciding with our Winter and Spring 1 sessions.

For anyone who might be interested in being certified as a lifeguard for summer employment, Menlo Swim and Sport will be offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class in April. The class will be held on April 18, 19, 25 and 26. The cost of the class is $275.

To become certified to guard or teach swimming, you must complete approximately 30 hours of training and pass practical and written exams. To enroll, you must be 15 1/2 years old or older and possess a valid photo ID.

The prerequisites include being able to swim 500 yards without stopping, demonstrating crawlstroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke.  Complete a surface dive to 7'-10', retrieve a 10 pound brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards and exit the pool with the brick.

As an incentive Menlo Swim and Sport is willing to refund the cost of the lifeguard course to students who successfully complete the course and get hired on as a summer guard staff member.
