Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my 5-year-old is ready for camp? We feel strongly that camp readiness doesn't just mean age. Both for water safety and camp enjoyment, we look for maturity in behavior with groups, empathy and awareness of others, plus a strong desire to join in. Camp Menlo is very active and team-oriented so the ability to follow directions and play hard is key.

Winter Camp Menlo: 2012
Winter Break Camp Menlo

Winter Camp Menlo is a one-day aquatics day camp that provides instruction and encouragement in a fun, safe, and friendly environment. Each camper receives a daily 45 minute swim lesson from a Menlo Swim School instructor (4:1 ratio), and 45 minutes of free swim in a warm, covered pool. With a family-style lunch and group games and crafts, campers enjoy community and teamwork. Our goal is to develop the proficiency of your swimmer in a secure, supportive setting.

Limited to 24 participants, 5-10 years old.

Dates and Times

One Day Only: Friday, February 17, 8:45am – 1:00pm

Swim Instruction and Recreational Water Time

Winter Camp Menlo offers professional swim instruction in a fun-filled camp format for all levels, ages 5-10. Kids who are just learning how to swim and kids who swim proficiently are accommodated and challenged with level appropriate instruction provided by our excellent team of Menlo Swim School instructors in lessons with a 4:1 ratio.

We build swimming confidence while improving current skills and developing stroke technique in a safe and encouraging environment. In addition to instructional swim, we play organized water activities and interactive games to reinforce what kids learn during instructional swim.  Campers enjoy 45 minutes of free swim each day with loads of water toys and inflatables.

Dry Land Games and Activities

Out of the pool, campers enjoy various group games and activities that encourage self confidence, growth, teamwork, and fun! We will enjoy these games out on the Burgess fields or in the new gym depending on weather conditions. Caring counselors lead games and activities and make certain campers feel supported and included. On land, all campers enjoy a 5:1 staff to child ratio.

Staffing, Supervision, and Safety

The camp is directed by a year-round professional staff who focus on quality, safety, enjoyment, efficiency, and value. The head coach is an experienced aquatics instructor/coach with a skill emphasis on childhood development. The head coach is assisted by counselors with experience in promoting safe and fun activities. The well-being of each camper is our primary concern. Campers are under constant supervision by the camp director, head coach, and counselors with a ratio of 5 campers per one staff member on land. In the water, the ratio is 4:1.

Location

The camp is hosted by Menlo Swim and Sport at the beautiful Burgess Park Pools facility. Water activities for Winter Camp Menlo take place in Instructional Pool under the Air Dome.  The Instructional Pool is a 25-yard, 6-lane rim-flow warm pool used primarily for instruction that is heated to 87 degrees and has a large shallow area.  During the summer the Baby Pool is open for ages 6 and under, heated to 87 degrees.
